November Featured Instructor: Ila

Each month we will be featuring one team member and their unique qualities that they bring to CORE and our clients. We hope you get to know each of us a little better and consider training with someone new. This month we are diving deeper with Ila!

CORE Buckhead: What brought you to the movement method that you teach? (Pilates, Gyrotonic, Redcord, etc)
Ila S.: I started taking Pilates in 2014, I had a few injuries from running track and was unable to lift weights due to my injuries. A friend of mine recommended Pilates to help with my lower back injuries and I've been hooked ever since!

CB: How long have you been teaching?
IS: I have been teaching for about 2.5 years.

CB: What do you like most about teaching?
IS: I love the "aha moment," when an exercise just clicks. I remember in my own practice trying to understand Teaser, it was the hardest exercise to understand. Then during one session it just came, after MANY attempts, I was just so happy to feel the work in my body. I love when that happens for a client!

CB: What is your favorite thing about teaching beginners?
IS: My favorite thing about teaching beginners is when they start to feel a difference in their bodies outside of Pilates. When they can take what they learn in their practice and transfer it over to their everyday lives or activities.

CB: What do you hope your clients get out of their sessions?
IS: I hope for each client to feel something or learn something new about their bodies after each session. I want them to feel good, lifted and open after each session.

CB: What is one piece of advice that you have for clients who are just getting started? One piece of advice for people who have had a long-term practice?
IS: I would give the same advice to beginners and those who have been practicing for a long time, that Pilates is a practice. To be kind to yourself and if there is something that they want to attain, that it will happen but to just be patient with themselves. We have a lifetime of Pilates to do, one session at a time.
