CORE Wellness: A New Model for Integrative Physical Therapy at CORE

For more than a decade, Atlanta’s best physical therapists have referred their patients to CORE’s expert instructors to help with the critical transition from clinical treatment to ongoing exercise. The refer in/refer out model has served our clients, but we think there is a far more effective and efficient way to help our clients feel their best.

On November 25, CORE will launch its newest venture, CORE Wellness, an Integrative Physical Therapy Practice.

Since CORE was an idea in a notebook in 2005, I’ve wanted to offer our community a holistic wellness experience that acts as a catalyst for our clients to live happy, healthy lives. Our expert teaching team has done that for thousands of clients, and now we will be able to serve you more comprehensively and more effectively.

If you’ve ever been to a traditional physical therapy (PT) practice, you know the drill: come in, warm up, get a little treatment, get passed off to an aide and get a print out of exercises that you might (or might not) do once you leave. If you’re like me, you make some progress, stop doing your exercises, and lose some ground. Maybe, like me, you found Pilates when you were ready to get out of this cycle.

While I’m an evangelist for the transformative impact of CORE’s movement methods, I also know the healing power of working one on one with an experienced physical therapist. Not only do PTs have more education and training, their scope of practice allows them to work with their hands to heal the body in ways that a movement teacher cannot.

With our busy lives, the frustrating part is when you see a physical therapist and what they do happens in a vacuum from your other fitness and wellness activities. If you’re already a fitness client at CORE, it can be challenging as a lay person to be the go-between trying to explain what your therapist is finding in your PT sessions and what your teacher is doing in your exercise sessions. Being the go-between can be overwhelming.

Alternatively, if you are a physical therapy patient who does not have a movement practice to transition to after your therapy, making that move to a sustainable exercise program can be incredibly intimidating, especially if your therapist has no personal knowledge of the place you will be working out or the people you will be working with.

Integrative is a hot word in medicine right now. What does it mean, really? According to the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, an integrative approach “takes account of the whole person, including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship between practitioner and patient, is informed by evidence and makes use of all appropriate therapies.”

What if, instead of your physical therapist and your CORE teacher exchanging texts and emails on the fringes of their days, you had a dedicated care team who could sit down with you to ensure that your goals and needs are understood and met?

What if, instead of coordinating schedules between two offices with two sets of processes and then running between offices to get treatment and workouts, you could get everything taken care of with one phone call?

What if, instead of basing your physical therapy experience on diagnosis codes and how many visits your insurance will pay for, your PT could tailor your treatment plan to address your whole body?

What if, instead of being in a high-volume clinic with your physical therapist juggling multiple patients and passing you off to an aide, you had their full attention for your whole appointment?

All of these factors – easy scheduling, coordinated care, a holistic approach to healing, and a one-on-one session – mean you get better results, faster, so you can feel your best for life. We encourage you to meet our Physical Therapist, Charlotte Salgado, learn more about her here.
