Benefits of PilatesThe CORE Approach to Pilates and Neutral SpineAll CORE Pilates instructors are classically trained in the full repertoire of Pilates mat and apparatus exercises by master teachers who trained under Kryzanowska. Some also have studied with other Pilates Elders. Classical Pilates training typically requires a minimum of 600 hours of seminars, observation and personal practice followed by extensive written and practical exams. CORE requires that instructors complete annual continuing education to refresh and improve their skill set. CORE's owners and instructors are deeply committed to the power and depth of the original Pilates method, to the systematic layering in and order of exercises, to comprehensive teacher education in the original Pilates method, and to keeping abreast of the most recent scientific developments concerning safe and effective fitness training. As practitioners from other disciplines, particularly physical therapists, have begun to adopt the principles the Pilates Method, they have scrutinized some of its basic tenets. The biggest issue debated by classical instructors and those who come from a medically-oriented background concerns correct anatomical placement of the lower spine and pelvis in Pilates exercises and the appropriateness of neutral spine during the execution of supine exercises. CORE staff members teach each of their clients in a manner that is appropriate for the client's body, skills and goals. Thus, all CORE instructors have been trained in the neutral spine approach so, where appropriate, they can modify the original method to suit their client's needs. © 2006 CORE. All Rights Reserved.
